Introduction to the Program
Some of the biggest problems that have struck the US in the past few decades is youngteenage pregnancies, spread of STDs like HIVAIDS, herpes, and others, increases in abortions, orphans and high schoolcollege dropouts. The underlying cause of all such problems is careless sex. This is most evident in younger people who are still studying and not ready to start families.
In this paper, a Youth Safe Sex Promotion Program will be studied. This program will target students at schools and colleges and will try to encourage safer sex amongst them. It will do this by introducing
Condom machines on campuses
Seminars on STDs
Guest speaker sessions (from local icons) on the Importance of Safe Sex
All of these three activities or mini programs will be combined to make the YSSP Program. Education on Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Safe Sex will alert students on why sex safety is essential and condom machines will encourage them to implement this education by transforming awareness into actions. Stakeholders for this program will include all community high school and colleges in Oakland, California, sponsors, and program manager and his team.
Evaluation
In order to ensure that the program will work as planned, the YSSP Program will follow the six steps, as identified by the CDC
All the community schools and colleges involved, the sponsors and the team will be invited to an initial meeting where the strategy will be introduced and resources will be determined. Following meetings held will include all participants that will give any more suggestions to improve the program. In short, everyone will be bought-in.
Secondly, the final program will be described and introduced thoroughly along with the problem statement.
Thirdly, stakeholders will be asked to come up with questions that they would like to have answered such as what will be evaluated, what standards must be met, etc.
Fourth, quantitative and qualitative data will be gathered to answer these questions
Fifth, the results as gathered will be justified by interpreting the results and coming up with findings.
Finally, the findings must be shared by printing in newspapers or college newsletters and websites.
Usefulness of Findings
The interpreted findings from the quantitative and qualitative data will be used to improve the program. For instance, suppose findings suggest that sale of condoms from the vending machines have not increased over a specified period of time. This information will be used to incorporate more education about the benefits and usage of condom machines such as lower costs, saving embarrassment of buying from pharmacies, etc. They will also be shared with the local communities to create even more awareness in the society.
